Tour Divide

The Tour Divide challenge is simple: Race the rooftop of North America by riding a bike self-supported along all 2,745 miles of Adventure Cycling Association's Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The goal is to keep moving and be moved; to exist well outside the comfort zone as you tackle a cross-continent bikepacking odyssey as fast as possible (without cracking).

I'd like to make an attempt in 2013, figuring that gives me two years to get a bike and get ready. Is it enough time? I don't know! We'll see.

Update 07/06/2012: I got a 29" Trek mountain bike last year to start riding and building mileage. I haven't done much the first year but I'm working on getting in more mileage now. There's a lot that still needs to come together in order to do the ride, but if I can I'd like to get out there and do it next year!

Update 09/09/2012: Two months later and things have changed. I'm planning to attend workshops next year when the race takes place, so 2013 is out! Not really sure when I might be able to pull things together for the race, but someday I'd like to give it as shot.

Update 11/22/2012: I'm not even thinking about the Divide right now. 2014? 2015? 2016? I'll be forty-five, that might be a good age! Who knows? Right now I'm healing from surgery. I'd still like to do this one day.

Update 8/26/2013: Still a long ways from doing this. Almost at my heaviest weight right now.
